Abstract: | The complexation reactions between alkaline earth cations and murexide in methanol, dimethylformamide and dimethylsulphoxide solutions have been studied spectrophotometrically at 25°C. The formation constants of the resulting 1 : 1 complexes were determined. In all solvents used, the stabilities of the murexide complexes vary in the order Ca2+ > Sr2+ > Ba2+ > Mg2+. There is an inverse relationship between the stabilities of the complexes and the Gutmann donicity of the solvents. |
