| Abstract: | A new approach is examined in this paper for solving mechanical problems for both constrained and unconstrained systems with second-order Lagrangians, using the Hamilton–Jacobi formulation. The relevant Hamilton–Jacobi function is constructed first. This is then used to determine the solutions of the equations of motion for both systems. |
