Organometallic Lewis Acids,Part LXI. Cationic Pentacarbonylrhenium Complexes [(OC)5Re‐L]+BF4– with Aromatic Amines (L) as Ligands

Aromatic amines (aniline and derivatives) react with (OC)₅ReFBF₃ to give the cationic complexes (OC)₅Re‐L]⁺ as BF₄^– salts under mild conditions and in high yields. Dinuclear, dicationic complexes are formed with o‐ and p‐phenylenediamine. Substitution of tetrafluoroborate by the N‐donors is preferred before attack at a carbonyl ligand.
