Abstract: | A theoretical analysis of the phase relations between the modulating ac and the emitted photon radiation of LEDs is given. The analysis is based on small-signal conditions and takes under consideration a connection of diode transient behavior due to charge storage and the optical absorption coefficient within the active region. In the case of one side area emitting diodes the inclusion of absorption losses in the scheme allows an interpretation of the local dependent phase relations. The theory developed is valid also for edge-emission of Fabry-Perot-devices. With the area emission the phase conditions are calculated and discussed, depending on the absorption coefficient, the thickness of light-guiding layer and the frequency of the alternating current. |
