Abstract:
The oxidation process of polyacetylene films which are very sensitive to exposure to oxygen was studied by infrared spectroscopy as a function of the exposure time. The absorption bands at 900 and 1370 cm−1 which were assigned to dopant induced modes were also observed in oxygen-exposed trans-polyacetylene. The number of absorption centers was reversible on pumping. These results indicate that adsorbed oxygen acts as a dopant and generates a charged soliton.
