Abstract:The attenuation of road traffic noise by a number of finite barrier configurations is investigated using scale modelling and computer simulation. It is found that the accepted UK prediction technique gives a consistently conservative estimate of barrier performance. It is shown that the use of a return wall as a noise barrier can be advantageous in certain circumstances.
