Abstract:Diethylenetriamine (dien) and iron(III) chloride in aqueous HCl yield (dienH3) [FeCl5(H2O)]Cl, in which the chloroferrate(III) anion is significantly distorted from octahedral symmetry due to the extensively hydrogen‐bonded lattice. On cooling, the high spin FeIII material shows weak antiferromagnetic coupling that results in a Néel temperature of 2.70 K.
