Abstract:The influence of O2 and H2O on the adsorption behavior of SO2 on surfaces of silver powders was studied by surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) at room temperature. The presence of H2O (∼103 Pa) and of O2 (∼104-105 Pa) is necessary to observe SERS peaks of surface species such as SO2-3 and SO2-4. These peaks disappeared on evacuation.
