Abstract: | Four data-reduction schemes were implemented and applied to measurements taken in the near field of a free, round jet with single-, cross- and four-wire probes from the Auspex Corporation. The results of these three databases were compared with experimental data from the literature and large eddy simulation computations. Comparisons between reduction techniques were also made to examine their respective characteristics and assess how they affected the accuracy of measurements made in a turbulent jet flow. Estimates of the accuracy of each scheme are given as a function of velocity direction and magnitude. It is concluded that four-wire probes, while a useful addition to the experimenters arsenal, remain limited to low and moderate turbulence intensity flows. |
