Abstract: | The ground-state physical properties, such as electron density, chemical potential, and total energy, of a two-dimensional quantum dot with N interacting electrons confined in a power-law external potential are numerically determined by the Thomas-Fermi approximation. The effect of the confining potential on properties such as electron density and chemical potential is examined for both interacting and non-interacting systems. It is shown that the results of the calculations are in excellent agreement with those given in the literature. The results indicate that interactions and the shape of the confinement affect the density and thus the ground-state properties of the electrons significantly. |
