Abstract: | Nanometer‐sized solids of uniform size distribution and well‐defined morphology often show a clear correspondence between shape and specific physico‐chemical properties that eventually may lead to a particular functionality. This contribution is about the potential of morphologically well‐defined nanocrystals to serve as model systems for the detailed exploration of chemical surface and bulk processes. Moreover, also with respect to synthesis and engineering of functional materials they are of great interest. As basic building block elements they can be utilized for the orientation dependent growth of complex nanostructures. |
