On the partition of rate of deformation in crystal plasticity

Abstract:Two different partitions of the rate of deformation tensor into its elastic and plastic parts are derived for elastic–plastic crystals in which crystallographic slip is the only cause of plastic deformation. One partition is associated with the Jaumann, and the other with convected rate of the Kirchhoff stress. Different expressions for the plastic part of the rate of deformation are obtained, and corresponding constitutive inequalities discussed. Relationship with the plastic part of the rate of the Lagrangian strain is also given.
