| Abstract: | General formulae describing field distributions and eigenvalue equations are presented for both TE and TM modes of the multiple quantum well optical waveguide with an arbitrary well number and with a periodic square wave refractive index profile. The effects of both structural and material parameters on the birefringence between the lowest order TE_0and TM_0 modes are analyzed and discussed for (Al)GaAs/AlGaAs multiple quantum well optical waveguides. |
