A new Mössbauer transducer using piezoelectric bimorph actuators

A pair of piezoelectric bimorph actuators is utilized successfully as a Mössbauer transducer for measurements of⁵⁷Fe spectra. The width of 0.256 mm/s (FWHM) is observed in a spectrum of natural Fe-metal, and good velocity resolution is achieved up to 10 mm/s. This transducer is applicable videly to other Mössbauer nuclei, because it is active even at liquid He temperature and can generate a velocity over 100 mm/s. The details of a liquid He cryostat made for this purpose is shown briefly.
