Abstract: | UV photoemission spectroscopy (UPS) with He I and He II radiation is used to study the interaction of C2H4 with clean and oxygen precovered Cu(110) surfaces at 90 K. On the clean surface only-bonding of the C2H4 molecules is observed whereas preadsorbed oxygen causes a second molecular orbital to be involved in the chemisorption. This result is consistent with the differing behaviour of the work function change during thermal desorption of C2H4. |
