Abstract: | Summary The double-well Duffing oscillator is investigated experimentally when a small noise is present in the system. It results that the noise influences the mean lifetime of the transient chaos showing some similarities with the phenomenon of the stochastic resonance. This behaviour is in agreement with a simple model based on the one-dimensional logistic map.
