Kinetic processes of Hg6s6p(P1) in xenon

Abstract:The principal route for decay of Hg 6s6p(3P1) in xenon is shown to be bimolecular deactivation to the mercury ground state, with rate coefficient 9.1 × 10?13 cm3 molecule?1 s?1; relaxation to the 3P0 state plays a negligible role. The equilibrium constant of the reaction Hg(3P1) + Xe right harpoon over left HgXe(A 3O+), has been recorded as 1.73 × 10?20 cm3 molecule?1 at 293 K.
