A discussion and comparison of numerical techniques used to solve the Navier–Stokes and Euler equations

Abstract:This paper is intended to provide some background to a number of widely used methods for solving the Navier–Stokes and Euler equations. The difference between coupled and uncoupled iterative schemes is discussed together with methods for solving the equations. Methods covered include time marching (both explicit and implicit), pressure correction and a Newton–Raphson technique. The relationship between the methods is illustrated.
