Electron diffraction studies of multilayers of vinyl stearate

Multilayers of vinyl stearate monomer were built up using the Blodgett technique. These were observed at low temperatures by electron diffraction and hexagonally twinned diffraction was observed. The reflections were indexed to be the (200) and (112) resulting from the pure vinyl stearate monoclinic cell. Hexagonal twinning was attributed to three preferred growth directions dictated by the original monolayer order–disorder packing.
