Abstract: | Secondary Ion Mass Spectra of Pt-black exposed to ethylene at 633 K contain a PtC2H3 cluster identified tentatively with adsorbed ethylidyne like that reported for single crystal surfaces. The catalytic properties of Pt pretreated by ethylene are, to some respect, superior in hydrocarbon transformations to those containing other, less defined carbonaceous overlayers.
