Abstract:Difference of grey distribution in different Scanning Electric Microscopy (SEM) photographs is frequently encountered due to such subjective reasons as inconsistent distance, inclination and metallic membrane of the observed points. The determining method of the grey threshold in Leica QWin system for SEM photographs was researched in the processing of a detailed case study on Tianjin's clay. The microstructure, implied by the three SEM photographs of different observing points in a small specimen, was explored in default threshold conditions. Along with the threshold change, the fractal dimension, the anisotropy, the aspect ratio,the roundness, the particle area, the mean grey and other microstructure parameters were also investigated. It is shown that the default threshold is not a constant for different observing points even for a specimen. Whereas, the anisotropy, the aspect ratio, the roundness, the particle area and the grey parameters are strongly influenced by the threshold magnitude.
