| Abstract: | An alternative criterion, which enforces gaussian expansions of Slater-type atomic orbitals to have similar shortrange and long-range suitabilities, is used. Such an approximation is deduced from weighted expansions recently proposed by Ehrenson in this journal. These new expansions should clarify scaling in molecular calculations. |
