The non-equilibrium ortho/para spin state ratio for molecular H2 formed in the hydrolysis of lithium aluminum hydride

Abstract:The ortho/para ratio for H2 formed by reaction of LiAlH4 with H2O is <- 2.3 at room temperature, indicating that H2 is formed in non-equilibrium spin ratios. Presumably only a few states of H2 are initially formed in the reaction.
