| Abstract: | Photoinduced electron-transfer (ET) reaction of 2,3-diphenyl-1,3-butadiene 1 resulted in the formation of [4+2] dimer 8, [4+4] dimer 4, and its secondary product bicyclooctadiene 9. The ET induced dimerization of 1 is suggested to proceed through a stepwise mechanism involving a bis-allylic intermediate 10. |
