Abstract: | Joints bonded with carried and uncarried film adhesives have been exposed to tritiated water vapour at 50° for periods up to 6 weeks. Comparison of the water uptake pattern in the joints with that calculated from diffusion coefficients showed the interior of the joints to be relatively deficient in water. In the systems studied, there is no contribution to water ingress from wicking along the carrier-adhesive or adhesive-metal interfaces. |
