A Note on the Waves Produced by the Small Oscillations of a Partially Immersed Vertical Plate

A simple expression is derived for the waves produced by thearbitrary small oscillations of a partially immersed flexiblevertical plate. The method involves an application of Green'stheorem to the known solution for the reflection and transmissionpast a fixed plate. The known particular results for roll andsway are recovered as special cases, and a new expression obtainedfor the waves radiated to infinity by a line source in the presenceof a fixed vertical plate.
