Abstract: | With CuSO4·5H2O as test system, it is demonstrated that the evolution of a gaseous product with thermal conductivity much lower than that of the purge gas in differential scanning calorimetry, leads to artefacts in the form of intense exotherms. This is due to a reduction of the heat flow from the sample to the environment. We are grateful to the Forschungsförderungsfonds of Austria for financial support. |
