Polystyrene microspheres with narrow particle size distribution

Crosslinked polystyrene microspheres of a diameter of the order of more than 2 μm and a narrow particle diameter distribution were synthesized by emulsifier-free emulsion polymerization. The dependence of various parameters such as an electrolyte (NaCl), an initiator (K₂S₂O₈), the phase volume ratio, the reaction temperature and time on the diameter and the particle size distribution has been discussed.
