Lifetime measurements of the 6p2P and 6d2D levels in Hg(II)

The radiative lifetimes of the 6p²P levels in Hg(II) have been measured to be $\text{τ(6p}{}^2\text{P}{}_{\mathrm{<mtext>3</mtext><mtext>2</mtext>}}\text{)= 3.92±0.12)}$ ns and $\text{τ(6p}{}^2\text{P}{}_{\mathrm{<mtext>1</mtext><mtext>2</mtext>}}\text{)=(2.3±0.3)}$ ns by the beam-gas-Hanle and the beam-foil techniques, respectively. The result for the $\text{6p}{}^2\text{P}{}_{\mathrm{<mtext>1</mtext><mtext>2</mtext>}}$ level differs from recent theoretical calculations, whereas there is good agreement for the $\text{6p}{}^2\text{P}{}_{\mathrm{<mtext>3</mtext><mtext>2</mtext>}}$ level.
