Abstract:The theory and practice of a solid-state electrochemical technique which allows measurement of the chemical diffusion coefficient and partial conductivities of the mobile species in a mixed ionic-electronic conductor, as well as the equilibrium partial thermodynamic quantities, are described. The theory incorporates nonideal thermodynamic behavior of the carriers as well as cross terms in the flux equations. Once the cell is assembled, all parameters can be measured as a function of composition without any further physical manipulation, so that the experiments are well suited to automatic control.
