| Abstract: | Reduction of di-O-benzoyl-viminolon ( 1 ) with LiAlH4 gave a mixture of 17-isopregn-5-ene-heptols. Treatment of this mixture with NaIO4 produced the amorphous 12-O-formyl sarcostinketone (= 12-O-formyl-3β, 8β, 12β, 14β-tetrahydroxy androst-5-en-20-one) ( 4 ).
