Three-dimensional nonequilibrium reacting airflow around a body penetrating into an equilibrium heated zone

Abstract:The problem of the supersonic penetration of a spherically blunt body at an angle of attack into a medium containing a temperature and chemical inhomogeneity is considered. In order to determine the flow parameters the unsteady Euler equations of gas dynamics, supplemented by the continuity equations for the chemical components that compose the dissociated air, are solved numerically. The variation with time of the shape of the bow shock, the flow characteristics and the component concentrations is determined.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Mekhanika Zhidkosti i Gaza, No. 6, pp. 130–137, November–December, 1990.The author wishes to thank V.
