| Abstract: | A method for the determination of formic and oxalic acids ( > 2.5 μmol) is based on the catalytic dehydration of formic and oxalic acids with acetic anhydride and measurement of the volume of liberated carbon monoxide. Formic acid (0.8–4.0 mg) can be determined in admixture with oxalic acid if the latter is first oxidized with permanganate in acidic medium. The error of a single determination of one acid does not exceed 3% (95% confidence). |
