Abstract: | Mefloquine (MQ) was determined quantitatively in pharmaceutical tablets by irradiating the MQ solution for 2–7 min with a high-pressure UV lamp, measuring simultaneously the increase in fluorescence signal at room temperature (298 K) and comparing the signal with that of a standard. The effects of several solvents (acetone, dioxane, ethanol, methanol, propan-2-ol, tetrahydrofuran, water) and “pH” on the fluorescence properties of MQ and its photochemical decomposition product were studied. The limit of detection of MQ was 50 ng ml?1. The mean overall recovery from pharmaceutical tablets was 102.3 ± 4%. |
