| Abstract: | reaction: see text] Readily available 5-vinyldihydropyridones 2 undergo Diels-Alder cyclization with various dienophiles to afford novel octahdroquinolines. The process is highly stereoselective and provides heterocyclic products containing synthetically useful functionality. |
