| Abstract: | Abstract The ethyl 2-diazo-4,5,6,7-tetrahydrobenzo[b]thiophene-3-carboxylate 2 reacts with ethyl acetoacetate to give the hydrazone derivative 4. The reactivity of 4 towards a number of different reagents including active methylene compounds as well as the use of 4 to synthesize fused heterocyclic systems is described. |
