An Algebraic Characterization of \mathcal{R} -Spaces

We study an algebraic structure naturally associated to a standard imbedding of an $\mathcal{R} $ -space. This structure determines completely the geometry of an $\mathcal{R} $ -space and reduces to a Jordan Triple System if the $\mathcal{R} $ -space is symmetric.
