Abstract:Both disproportionation and oxidation of CO over Ni/Al 2O 3 were studied using transient response kinetic analysis at atmospheric pressure and 973 K. The results show that disproportionation of CO is difficult to occur and thermodynamically unfavorable at 973 K. However, oxidation of CO proceeds easily under the experimental conditions. It was found that CO is oxidized easily to CO 2 by weak reversibly adsorbed oxygen and is difficult to be oxidized by NiO relatively. That supports our direct oxidation mechanism and explains well why the selectivity for CO is very high in the process of partial oxidation of methane.
