Cell formation in the convective mixed layer

This study presents the idea of a secondary instability which is expected to take place in the turbulent convective mixed layer. The cellular disturbance develops due to spatial modulation of the number density of buoyant plumes produced in the surface unstable layer. The idea has been checked by a laboratory experiment with small bubbles as the buoyancy source.
