Abstract: | Changes have been observed in the upper layer spacing of a clean and an oxygen covered Ni(110) single crystal by employing medium energy ion scattering, combined with channeling and blocking. We find a contraction of 4% for the clean surface and a minor expansion of 1% for a surface with monolayer of adsorbed oxygen. |
