Electrical conductance of kaolin — Electrolyte systems

Summary The specific conductance of kaolin suspensions was determined at different NaCl and particle concentrations. It was found to vary linearly with particle and/or electrolyte concentration. The slope of the lines was found to depend on the difference in the conductances of ions and particles. Equations relating the total conductance to the conductances of electrolyte and particles were derived. The differences between the calculated and observed conductances were discussed.
