Abstract:We consider the contact between a rough surface and a smooth rigid plane. The real contact area and pressure are determined by taking into account the deformation regimes of metallic asperities. The local contact of each asperity is studied, by introducing a transitional regime between perfectly elastic and plastic extreme behaviours.
