Abstract:In the framework of perturbation theory, a probability of excitation of a hydrogen atom from the ground to the first excited state under bichromatic laser radiation with the frequency ratio 1:2 in the presence of electric field is calculated, taking into account quantum interference of two process channels. In the case under study, a coherent superposition of the 2s-and 2p-states, necessary for quantum interference to occur, is formed under the action of the external electric field. The excitation probability is analyzed depending on the relative phase of monochromatic radiation components (the coherent phase control) for two extreme cases: for a strong electric field, where the Stark splitting of an upper level essentially exceeds the spin-orbit one, and for the contrary limit of a weak field. __________ Translated from Izvestiya Vysshikh Uchebnykh Zavedenii, Fizika, No. 8, pp. 20–28, August, 2006.
