Abstract: | Sodium tetrafluoroborate (NaBF4) is found to catalyze the three component condensation of an aldehyde, 1,3‐dicarbonyl compound and urea or thiourea to afford the corresponding 3,4‐dihydropyrimidin‐2(1 H)‐ones and thiones in high yields. This method is very useful for the synthesis of a wide range of 3,4‐dihydropyrimidin‐2(1 H)‐ones and thiones from aromatic, heterocyclic, α,β‐unsaturated aldehydes and aliphatic aldehydes. |
