Constants of quenching of 5s 22 D 5/2, 3/2 CdII levels by argon

Constants of quenching of the CdII ion Beutler levels by argon were experimentally determined. Excited cadmium ions in the 5s ^{2 2} D _{5/2, 3/2} states were produced by sputtering metal cadmium with alpha-particles at a temperature of 240°C. The quenching constants for the 5s ^{2 2} D _5/2 and 5s ^{2 2} D _3/2 CdII ion levels were found to be 1.3×10^?10 and 1.8×10^?10 cm³ s^?1, respectively.
