| Abstract: | Using the single-photon time correlation method, we have determined the lifetime of the S2(B3Σ?u) state from the decay rate of the fluorescence at 370 nm. A lifetime of 45.0 ± 0.6 ns was measured, and the cross section for fluorescence quenching by S2 as found to be 81.3 ± 4.7 A2. A slight dependence of the lifetime on the wavelength of the excitation source over the range of 280 to 337 nm was observed. |
