Abstract:
R are presented of metallographic examinations of specimens which have been creep tested at high temperatures and under different conditions of steady applied stress. The interaction between the growth of micro-fissures or voids and the mode of final rupture is discussed. The applied-stress versus rupture-life characteristics of a number of commercial alloys are presented together with simple expressions which are shown to describe approximately the stress-sensitive nature of their rupture behaviour.
