| Abstract: | The molecular ions of some diterpenoid trans-γ-and δ-lactones have been shown to lose the elements of carbon dioxide. The corresponding cis-lactones do not undergo fission in this manner. A mechanism for this stereospecific fragmentation is proposed. |
