| Abstract: | The equations of radiative transfer and of statistical equilibrium of a two-level atom are solved by means of differential and integral equations for a one-dimensional medium. The numerical solutions are compared to the analytic solution. It is found that the integral equation for piecewise quadratic source functions gives more accurate results than does the differential equation. |
