| Abstract: | The magnetisation density distribution in the Heusler alloy Fe2MnSi has been determined using polarised neutron diffraction. The results have been fitted with a simple free atom model which gives the amplitude of the moment and the symmetry of the magnetisation of each of the two transition metal sites. This fitting reveals a small negative moment on the silicon site. The results are compared with those obtained for Fe3Si and Fe3Al and with the predictions of a band structure calculation. |
